Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of making web pages attractive to search engines. Search Engine Optimization is crucial for anyone who wants web site traffic. You can place as many ads as you like, but most people are still going to find your site because of its listings in Search Engines or directories.

What are the key elements of SEO?

Every page needs a unique keyword title
Every page should list meta tag keywords and keyword phrases (script that includes terms and phrases whichhelp Search Engines know what you feel is most important on that page)
Every page should include a meta tag description (script that is captured by Search Engines to describe that web page)
All images should include Alt Tags (A brief description of the image that includes your main keywords and keyword phrases)
A healthy use of Header tags (h1, h2, h3, h4)
Bold and Italicize your keywords and keyword phrases throughout the content of your site.
Be sure your chosen keywords and keyword phrases are repeated judiciously throughout the content of the page. You don't want to overdo it, or your page may be rejected as spam, but you need to repeat it enough times that the Search Engine's software will consider the phrase relevant.

These are the bare bones of effective SEO. Applying just these six basic rules of search engine optimization will give your web pages a better chance of showing up on those critical first few pages of search results.

what are keywords and how do you choose them?

Let's imagine that you decided to go searching for a product or service similar to what you offer. You want to be an educated buyer, so you decide to go to the internet to learn as much as you can. When you log into Google or your favorite Search Engine, what do type in? Remember, you are a consumer who is not familiar with you or your company. You know you want a particular product or service, but you don't know exactly what that is or how to find it. What would you type into the search bar? Those are keywords or keyword phrases.

When choosing your keyword and keyword phrases, you need to consider what's going to be talked about on that web page. Each page should include a unique list of terms and phrases. It is not advised to focus on a large list of terms but rater the main terms or phrases that will be used on that page (typically 3-5 keywords or phrases).
